You can’t beat a great day out at the Royal Norfolk Show and this year’s is nearly here – Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th June (have you got your tickets yet, you can buy online or check out other ticket outlets) . Did you know that it’s the UK’s largest 2-day County Show!
Having started as a purely Agricultural show way back in 1847, now it’s a real family day out with something for everyone. Of course, there’s plenty of livestock to see and admire, competing in hundreds of classes including Young Handlers, Breed Societies and lots more, including the “Colman’s Mustard Beef Inter-Breed competition – unique to Norfolk of course.
I love to see the horses too and this year around 1300 horses are expected to take part in the Show in 7 competition rings, including Horse of the Year Show qualifiers and new for 2016 is the Rescue Horse Village. While Ian would head for the Vintage Machinery to see the old tractors, steam engines and motorcyles.
In the Countryside Area there will be pig racing, dog agility, fly fishing, archery, Raptor displays and lots more. Mr Mawkin’s Farm will have sheep, pigs, turkeys and goats – the best of Norfolk’s rare breeds large and small.
In the Discovery Zone, there’s a range of activities and experiences with interactive displays. Norfolk’s Biggest Outdoor Classroom will be packed with activities for school children to join in. The Innovation Hub will showcase the latest agri-technology emerging from the East of England.
The Flower and Garden Show is always popular and this year is focussing on roses and sweet peas as well as other cut flowers, pot plants, fruit and vegetables.
There’s even a Military Village and an Art Exhibition and Auction with drawings, textiles, oils and ceramics on display.
Two new areas for 2016 are the Broads and Tourism Village where visitors can find out about the work of the Broads Authority and also The Green with an array of performing arts and musical acts.
Last, but definitely not least, is the Adnams Food & Drink Experience – Proudly Norfolk with a theme of Grow It, Cook It, Eat It in the Cookery Theatre with demonstrations and talks from some of Norfolk’s top chefs and also more than 70 producers in the Food Hall.
