We are now offering “Afternoon Tea” Picnics to take with you when you stay. We’ve collected a few local spots that would be perfect for a picnic. These are our favourite places by the water, but you can go to the beach, or we can suggest a quiet spot on the farm. Our picnics are pre-order (48 hours’ notice) and priced at £16 per person; please contact me for more details or order.
Womack Staithe NR29 5QG
This is by the village of Ludham, there is a small car park by the river, with a village green that has benches looking over the river. Alongside a small shop, there are public toilets and footpaths heading away from the Staithe.
St Benet’s Abbey
At Ludham Village opposite the King’s Arms pub, turn off the A1062 taking Staithe Road past Ludham Butcher’s with the church on your right. Continue for half a mile, passing Lovers’ Lane on your right, until you reach a junction with Hall Common Road, which has a small grass island. Turn right onto Hall Common Road for about a third of a mile until you reach the St Benet’s Abbey Road junction with a Restricted Byway signpost to St Benet’s Abbey. Proceed along this road for almost a mile to the car and cycle park, from where the Abbey site is a short walk away. You do travel through a farmyard, and it is a concrete track, but I can drive it in my Ford Focus without a problem.
Perfect remote spot by the river, For information on the Abbey https://www.stbenetsabbey.org/index.php
How Hill NR29 5PG
There is free parking with a large open green space in front of the large house that is now a study centre. There are benches, toilets and a tea room in the Summer. One of my favourite summer spots is walking by the river and to the secret garden! https://howhilltrust.org.uk/
Coltishall Common NR12 7EA
There is a large village green overlooking the river with ample parking and public toilets near the Rising Sun Pub. There are many benches, and in the Summer months, there is an Ice cream van parked at the far end. An ideal spot to watch the world go by!
Potter Heigham Bridge
It’s a busy place with lots of boats and people; alongside the bridge, there is a large stretch of grass with picnic benches that is ideal for a picnic. Lots of parking at Latham’s, the discount superstore of the broads which also has a bakery selling very nice cake.
