Deep History Coast Discovery Trail

The Deep History Coast Trail covers 36km of coastline from Weybourne to Cart Gap along the clifftops of the north Norfolk coast. Cart Gap is alongside Happisburgh just a few miles down the coast from us. With eleven discovery points along the way, you can find out what the landscape looked like hundreds of thousands of years ago. Rockpooling @ West Runton
West Runton is halfway between Cromer and Sheringham and is a Blue Flag beach, It is part of Norfolk’s Deep History Coast, and is a rewarding beach to beachcomb. It was at West Runton beach where, in 1990, the almost complete skeleton of a Steppe Mammoth was discovered. Experts believe the animal would have weighed around 10 tonnes when alive. There are many treasures to discover along this beach. Previous finds have included, belemnites, amber, fossil sea urchins and fossil sponge. At low tide, rock pools are revealed, and you may come across its inhabitants including, shore crabs, long-spined sea-scorpions, starfish, beadlet anemones and common hermit crabs to name a few. So whatever the time of year take your bucket and spade and see what you can find.
The Seals & The Beach
The seals at Horsey have now finished having their pups, around 4,000 since November, but there are still plenty to be seen playing in the sea and on the beach. There are some great walks that incorporate the beach and Horsey Mere which is the home of the National Trust Mill. Alternatively walk from Sea Palling to Waxham on the coastal path, you can walk on the beach to Waxham or Horsey and then follow the coastal path through the Dunes back to Sea Palling where you will find cafes offering great hot chocolate, coffee and seaside style donuts! Not forgetting the smallest amusement arcade ever with 2p machines and all the seaside games.
Train Rides
The heritage North Norfolk railway at Sheringham will be running steam trains throughout ½ term and the smaller scale Bure Valley railway at Wroxham will be hosting the Teddy bear express

Lambing Live @ Wroxham Barns

This February half term, visit Wroxham Barns for Lambing Live.Our maternity ‘ewe’nit’ is currently home to 15 pregnant ewes expecting either a single lamb, twins or triplets! With due dates from 15th February right the way through the school holidays, we are set for a busy time on Junior Farm.During half-term, you can see our pregnant ewes, get up close to the newborn lambs, listen to our Junior Farmer’s tell you what’s happening in the lambing tent and you may well get to see a live birth for yourself. Included in the price of your ticket is the opportunity to feed our hungry calves, cuddle our guinea pigs & rabbits, let off some steam in our indoor soft play and unlimited rides, mini golf, jumping pillows and more in our Fun Park.
Bewilderwood, Horning
Bewilderwood is a huge forest adventure for all the family, Treehouses, Wobbly Wires, Slippery Slopes, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Storytelling. This ½ term they are offering buy one get one free on all tickets. Yes you will get muddy and mucky but I know from experience when my children were small you will have a brilliant day, as we have hot showers and warm rooms for when you get home!
Broad Tours Pirate Themed River Trip, Wroxham, 19 to 23 February

For a swashbuckling adventure this half-term, Broads Tours is running pirate themed river trips. Pirates have commandeered the Cordon Rouge on the Norfolk Broads to seek lost treasure! They need a crew (you!) to help them find it. With pirate-themed decoration, activity packs and commentary from Flint, the pirate ship captain, it’s sure to be a fun experience. Trips last for 1.5 hours and run twice daily during half-term (11am and 2pm). And don’t forget to dress up as a pirate too!
Hickling Nature reserve Winter watertrail

Join us for a Winter Watertrail on Hickling Broad. We’re delighted to be able to offer you a journey into the heart of the reserve with the intention to seek and observe winter wildlife. The trip will explore areas of Hickling Broad and may venture further into Heigham Sound, Meadow and Candle Dykes. Large gatherings of waterfowl congregate in the area over the winter months with wild swans being recorded most winters, along with a large wintering mute swan population. Diving ducks in the form of pochard and tufted duck are likely to be present, as will a variety of dabbling ducks.. Raptors will almost certainly be seen hunting over the surrounding reedbeds and grazing marshes, Otter and both red and Chinese water deer may also be spotted. Booking essential. The reserve is also open for walking on the trails and paths throughout the winter
