The Daily Telegraph no less has identified Norfolk as “Britain’s Classiest County” stating … “It hardly needs Sandringham to give Norfolk the cachet of a superior address. The whole county oozes class, the Broads as gorgeous as ever and ultra-trendy towns such as Burnham Market attract a sophisticated set from London. Even its detractors are
Surrounded by swallows….
It’s that time of year again! The swallows arrived back in May after over-wintering in South Africa and once again we have had nests all around the Barns. Love to see the parents swooping around the farm after insects to feed the young; they are incredibly acrobatic and so fast. Most of the babies seem

Fresh roasted coffee gets us going in the mornings …
We’re looking to introduce “local” coffee to our tasty farmhouse breakfasts here at Dairy Barns and this week we’ve been for a tasting at Grey Seal Coffee Roasters ….. mmm. This fab little company is based in Glandford in North Norfolk just 2 miles from the coast – hence the name which we think is
Car-free and carefree – cycling the Broads
Here at Dairy Barns, we’re delighted to be able to collaborate with another wonderful Broads business – Broadland Cycle Hire. Cycling is a great way to get around – they do say that Norfolk is the flattest county in Britain don’t they? There really is nothing better than meandering along the country lanes around Hickling

Wild storks nest in Norfolk – really?
Thrigby Wildlife Gardens are lucky enough to have 2 white storks take up residence amongst the chimney stacks of the Hall and have been spotted “engaging in mating rituals”. If they produce eggs these would be first wild stork eggs recorded in Britain since 1416 – almost 600 years!
What’s on in Norwich this month…March 2014
Our Fine City of Norwich is always a wonderful place to visit and easy to get to from Dairy Barns too. Historic Norwich Castle is well worth spending some time and currently they have a fabulous exhibition of pieces on loan from the British Museum entitled “Roman Empire: Power and People”. How lucky are we
St Patrick’s Day – 17th March
It’s St Patrick’s Day on 17th March, celebrating the patron saint of Ireland. We love seeing all our Irish friends wearing their shamrock and dressed in green. It’s also the day when the Lent restrictions on eating and drinking are lifted so we’re always delighted to welcome our Irish guests to enjoy a stay with
At last…. spring has sprung – surely…..
Although it’s been a pretty gentle one really (despite the rain and floods, at least we haven’t had any snow), we’re always glad to say goodbye Winter and say hello to Spring as we look forward to the start of British Summertime on 30th March. Once the clocks go forward and we get longer days
