It’s that time of year again! The swallows arrived back in May after over-wintering in South Africa and once again we have had nests all around the Barns. Love to see the parents swooping around the farm after insects to feed the young; they are incredibly acrobatic and so fast. Most of the babies seem to have fledged now and we often see the youngsters perched on the barn doors waiting for mum to bring something squidgy and tasty.
In a couple of months’ time they’ll head off once again; travelling over France, across the Pyrenees, down through Spain, Morocco and across the Sahara, often covering 200 miles a day at speeds of around 20 miles per hour.
What incredible little creatures they are!
